Financial Support

Student bursaries:

Partial financial assistance will be provided to a limited number of students and postgraduate students (age limit of 35 applies). The first requirement for obtaining a bursary is the submission of a regular abstract. The application must be submitted by e-mail to the chairman of the organizing committee (Radovan.Cerny@cryst.unige.ch) not later than 1 March 2006, and should contain the following documents:

- Abstract of the conference contribution.
- Curriculum Vitae with list of publications.
- A headed letter from the Research Supervisor who certifies the student status of the applicant and whether the student has access to any source of funds to attend the meeting.
- Budget of travel kept at its lowest possible cost.

Successful applicants will be notified with the abstract acceptance by 1 May 2006.

Early Stage Researcher support:

SCOPES:
It is planned that a limited number of grants will be available to support early stage researchers. In particular, the organizers of EPDIC 10 will submit a SCOPES proposal to the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) so as to obtain a Conference Grant enabling a limited number of scientists from Eastern European countries to participate.

Preference in this context of SCOPES will be given to early stage researchers (age limit of 45 applies) who provide a valuable contribution (oral presentation, poster) to the Conference. The funding will consist of a flat contribution for the selected participants used for travel (as cheap as possible) and accommodation (Students Residence) costs (*).

The eligible participants should originate from the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia-Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.

Scientists originating from these countries and interested in obtaining a SCOPES grant to participate in EPDIC 10 should submit the application by e-mail to the chairman of the organizing committee (Radovan.Cerny@cryst.unige.ch) not later than 1 March 2006. The application should contain following documents:

- Abstract of the conference contribution.
- Curriculum Vitae with list of publications.
- Budget of travel kept at its lowest possible cost.

Provided the proposal is accepted and granted by the SNSF, both the organizers and the SNSF will then make the selection of the participants who will benefit from a grant and inform with the abstract acceptance by 1 May 2006 all the candidates about the outcome of their candidacy.

(*) It is then expected that the selected participants are able to pay the registration fee (CHF 360.-) from their own budget.

INTAS:
Conference Individual Grants (CIGs) support, through individual grants, the participation of NIS scientists in international scientific events organised world-wide. The call for conference grants applications is permanently open with four annual closure dates: 1st February, 1st May, 1st August, and 1st November.
Applications should be received exclusively from individual scientists with NIS citizenship and working on a permanent basis in a R&D institution of a NIS country.
- The applicant must be in the 25 - 45 age range.
- The applicant should imperatively contribute to the programme of the conference in the form of an invited lecture, oral communication, or poster presentation.
- Costs should be partly supported by the applicant's home institution and/or by the Conference Organising Committee and/or by another organisation. This support may include coverage of travel costs and/or living costs and/or waiver on Conference fees by the Organising Committee.
Only applications through INTAS Internet-based submission system will be accepted. Applications sent by post, e-mail, telex or facsimile will be rejected without notice.

OTHER:
As other sources of funding may be available, participants originating from other countries should use the same procedure as for SCOPES in order to prepare a grant request.

IUCr Scientific Freedom Policy Statement:

The Organizing Committee of EPDIC-10 shall observe the basic policy of nondiscrimination and affirms the rights of scientists throughout the world to adhere or to associate with international scientific activity without restrictions based on nationality, race, color, age, religion, political philosophy, ethnic origin, citizenship, language, or sex, in accordance with the Statues on the International Council for Science. At this meeting (or symposium etc.) no barriers will exist which would prevent the participation of bona fide scientists.
